Class Announcements Becoming Scientists and Dressing for the Part! The supervisor of all science for our county just sent me a giant box full of goodies to use in the teaching of science. Included were these handsome aprons to wear while doing experiments. Check out the pictures of our classmates looking rather dapper in their blue aprons. I won't tell you how much trouble we had tying the bow behind our backs. The electromagnet experiment was very successful!
Curriculum FocusWe have moved on to our next unit in social studies, the Civil War. We will be discussing some touch subjects, such as slavery. The children will be reading a few books that I have selected for free reading that will enhance this unit. Feel free to take your child on a family field trip to all of the battlefields that surround our area. You can visit the historic site where the Civil War began in Manassas, right in our back yard. You can see a statue of Stonewall Jackson on his horse. This is all located right past the Manassas Mall!
In math we are moving on to the measurement unit. There will be lots of fun hands on activities in order to apply how to use our rulers. We will study both the metric system and the standard system of measurement. The students will also learn approximate conversions when moving from one system to the other. In written language we are studying how to do a narrative story. They are currently working on "The Genie" prompt. The writing test is on March 10th. Please encourage your student to do their best in writing complete sentences at all times and editing their work for spelling and punctuation mistakes. Remember that we will be going to George Mason University for a play next Monday, March 1. This will be on school buses and during school hours. Everyone has already paid for this a long time ago. I also have the permission slips. Third Nine Weeks AR Reading RequirementAll students are required to read a biography approved by me. The AR TEST results are due by March 15.
Important Dates to RememberPlease mark your calendars with these two dates.
